Hi, and welcome to Obsidian Butterfly,
I'm Laura and I am the owner of Obsidian Butterfly. Obsidian Butterfly was created in 2011, when I decided to leave the world of Department Store Management, and follow my dream of making and selling my own handmade sterling silver jewellery. I have always been creative, and felt this was stifled while I was a manager. I decided to take a night course in silver smithing, and that's where my passion for jewellery was started. I studied at night school for five years to learn the many different techniques of jewellery making. |
I enjoy many different techniques of jewellery making, but my favourites are piercing (sawing intricate shapes) and upcycling. Upcycling is taking unused and often over looked items, and making them into something useful today. It is like recycling, only making something better. I like to make jewellery out of sterling silver spoons and other cutlery, as well as anything else I can get my hands on! I also do a large range of silver plated cutlery jewellery, as silver plated spoons tend to get thrown away as they can not be melted down for scrap. They can also be family heirlooms and have a sentimental value, but can sit in attics for years. This is a way of having an heirloom as your jewellery.
I also do a lot of commission jewellery. I particularly enjoy commissions as they always mean something to the person ordering it. The jewellery design has usually come from the heart, so I put my heart into making it the best piece possible. If you would like to order a commission piece, please contact me. I also join with Naim of Calla Crafts to teach silver jewellery making. If you would like to know more about the courses please click here. |
